So last week Soul Calibur VI had its online network test. We could only play Rank matches and no move list available in the game, so we had to go on knowledge from the past games. All the staple characters are back, but the beta only allows you to choose from 16 characters.

The current character list is as follows (I’ll highlight the ones in the beta and new):

Astaroth – First appeared in Soul Calibur.
Azeral – First appearance.
Cervantes – First appeared in Soul Blade / Soul Edge.
Geralt – From the witcher, first appearance and was playable in the Beta.Groh – First appeared and was playable in the Beta.
Inferno – First appeared Soul Blade / Soul Edge.Ivy – First appeared in Soul Calibur and was playable in the Beta.Kilk – First appeared in Soul Calibur and was playable in the Beta.Maxi – First appeared in Soul Calibur and was playable in the Beta.Mitsurugi – First appeared in Soul Calibur and was playable in the Beta.Nightmare – First appeared in Soul Calibur and was playable in the Beta.
Raphael – First appeared in Soul Calibur II and was playable in the Beta.
Seung Mi-na
  – First appeared in Soul Blade / Soul Edge.Siegfried – First appeared in Soul Blade / Soul Edge and was playable in the Beta.Sophitia – First appeared in Soul Blade / Soul Edge and was playable in the Beta.Taki – First appeared in Soul Blade / Soul Edge and was playable in the Beta.Talim – First appeared in Soul Calibur II and was playable in the Beta.Tira – First appeared in Soul Calibur III, was playable in the Beta and Day one DLC.Voldo – First appeared in Soul Blade / Soul Edge and was playable in the Beta.Xianghua – First appeared in Soul Calibur and was playable in the Beta.Yoshimitsu – First appeared in Soul Calibur and was playable in the Beta.Zasalamel – First appeared in Soul Calibur 3 and was playable in the Beta.

My experience of the beta wasn’t negative; sure I had to crank the search criteria down to any to get a decent amount of games, but this didn’t result with any games showing noticeable lag.

I did not play as all the characters in the beta, but the ones I did play seemed well balanced. For the returning characters very similar and different at the same time.

Overall I’m super stoked about Soul Calibur VI, after the disappointing 5th entry in the series, and this seems to be a return to the days of Soul Calibur II days, which is my 2nd favourite fighting game.

The game releases on the 19/10/2018 and I’m for one will probably pick it up. What can I say I’m a sucker for Soul Calibur games.

Here’s a link to the playlist of the matches I played over the beta period also at the playlist finishes with our day one stream of the beta.
